Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

As we walk down the path of having our broken hearts mended some might would say how possibly can what you let yourself think about is part of this process?

Someone who takes that position would not understand the balance between our combination of natural and spiritual life.  Often, shocking tragic everts, such as the loss of a loved one, most often play out in a battle for our minds.  Doubts, fear, anxiety, unbelief, feelings of disbelief attack our minds.  It’s easy to lose focus on the most important things.  It’s okay to work through the natural feelings, thoughts and hurt of losing someone you love.  But guard against giving in to negative thoughts you know at the end of the day, in your heart of hearts, you don’t even believe.

Think on:

  1. The trueness of your loved ones’ eternity with Christ.
  2. The honesty of how you feel.
  3. The togetherness because you also have the right to eternal life because of Christ.
  4. The pure love of God to us.
  5. Favorite memories with your loved one.
  6. A good report (testimony), what did they overcome in their life or what did both of you overcome together?
  7. Think on their virtue. What kind of things did they do to help others?
  8. Think on praising God for allowing you to have them this long.

Occupy your mind with these thoughts and you could not only help others get through their grief but help yourself gain victory as well.   (cont. – next page)

Today, as you celebrate the life of your loved one, know they have finished their course in this physical life in Christ.

This should make you happy.
