Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Sometimes it’s just OK to be human.  You don’t have to hold back how you feel.  Pain naturally comes to us when we lose someone we love.  It’s alright to hurt.

It’s normal.

Part of this pain comes from accepting the reality of what’s happened.  We can see no better example of this than in the life of Jesus Himself.  Jesus had a friend.  His name was Lazarus.  He lived in a town called Bethany.  The sisters of Lazarus sent messengers to Jesus that Lazarus was sick.  This part of the country where they lived had people who wanted to physically harm Jesus.  His disciples warned against Him going.  He went anyway.  While on His way new messengers came and told Him Lazarus had died and was buried.  Even though Jesus knew He would raise Lazarus from the dead He felt the human emotional pain of loss.  In John, chapter 11 verse 35, the gospel simply says: “Jesus wept”.  If it’s ok for Jesus to experience the human emotional pain of loss, it’s OK for you too.

God is close to you today.  Let Him give you strength.  He is able to, he is willing to, and he wants to. Just rest in Him.
